Mechanical Contractors Association of Georgia

Once you have become a MCAG member, your company will automatically become a member of the national Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) www.mcaa.org. Among the many direct benefits you will derive from MCAG & MCAA are these:

Education and Training - At the monthly MCAG membership meeting, you'll hear outstanding speakers on important issues facing our industry. MCAA sponsors ongoing seminars for Supervisors, Project Managers, etc throughout the year.

Governmental Affairs - MCAG represents the interests of its members nationally, through its support of MCAA’s Political Action Committee and locally through its involvement in regulatory issues.

Industry Relations - MCAG is an active participant on the Georgia State Code Advisory Committee, Project Safe Georgia Construction Committee, Georgia State Licensing Board, Mid South Business Round Table, Educational Alliances with many of the School Systems in Georgia, Atlanta & Georgia Chamber of Commerce, along with many other committees in representing mechanical contractor’s interest, as well as being an active Affiliate of the National Mechanical Contractors Association.

Information - MCAG & MCAA keeps its members informed on industry events through local and national publications, such as a national weekly update, a monthly reporter newsletter, timely special reports as events warrant, Mechanical Contractors Association of America Directory and Buyers Guide, MCAG bulletins and others. Also the MCAG has a monthly membership meeting, in addition to conventions, seminars and other meetings available through membership.

Industry Forum - MCAG represents the mechanical contracting industry at a number of joint meetings with allied professional and trade organizations. What does that mean to you? It means your voice will be heard. Active participation in MCAG enables members to become better acquainted with and understand problems that are unique to a few companies, or that are shared by all mechanical contractors. MCAG meets monthly for a complimentary dinner with your peers to discuss industry problems and hear informative speakers.

As a contractor, you not only benefit from activities the Association performs on behalf of the entire industry, but you also provide your input on them:

  • MCAG is the bargaining agent for employers with Local Union 72.
  • MCAG members jointly oversee the Apprenticeship program.
  • MCAG members are trustees of Union benefit funds.
  • MCAG members represent the industry to a number of professional groups, from architects and engineers to specification writers and more.
  • MCAG members and staff provide building code input at local, regional and national levels. Our members meet with regulators and elected officials to provide input on the laws and regulations that govern our industry before they are enacted!
  • MCAG provides you opportunities to serve on special committees and projects devoted to improvement of the industry.

Labor Relations - MCAG represents its members in contract negotiations and administration with the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Local Union 72. Not just during contract negotiations, but also on a daily basis, the MCAG is actively engaged in maintaining a productive working relationship with the unions in our industry.

Local Recognition - Many governmental bodies and organizations recognize MCAG as the policy leader for our industry. We assist our members to be nominated and elected to various local, state and national boards.

Partnerships - MCAG has striven since its inception to develop partnerships to benefit its membership and their customers. The partnership between MCAG and the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Union has been delivering quality to its customers for 100 years. The MCAG is also continuing to develop partnerships with construction users, owners and service providers.

Safety - MCAG provides information on changing OSHA regulations and provides its members with a wealth of low and no-cost safety materials, publications and polices, such as the "Drugs Don’t Work Program."

Student Chapters - MCAG has established successful student chapters in the Building and Construction Departments at the Georgia Institute of Technology and Southern Polytechnic State University. We also work with many other schools and colleges to recruit people into our industry.

Surplus Material Exchange - Mechanical Contractors are able to input surplus material by following the instructions provided in the private site for Mechanical Contractors. Only Signatory Contractors may use this free advertising service. Mechanical Contractors can reach an unlimited number of potential shoppers. Technical and Training Services - MCAG supports apprentice, journeyman, and technician training through representation on Joint Apprentice and Training Committees with the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Union. MCA also provides a variety of management development and technical programs for contractors.

Trust Funds - MCAG helps ensure Contractor contributions to fringe benefit plans are used wisely and efficiently through representation on local trust funds.

Workers’ Compensation Insurance - Membership allows your firm access to the MCAG’s Workers’ Compensation sponsored program.
